Accessible Arts has joined the National Cultural Access Initiative. With generous support from the John W. and Effie E. Speas Memorial Trust (David Ross, Bank of America - Trustee), Accessible Arts has been able to make a technology upgrade, establish this web site and become the leader of a Cultural Access Initiative in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
VSA arts and VSA arts of Massachusetts began the National Cultural Access Initiative five years ago in recognition of the nationally significant movement of cultural access advocacy and the leadership role that agencies like Accessible Arts can play in their communities. Accessible Arts staff members and collaborative partners will receive training from Charles Washburn of VSA arts of Massachusetts and other experts in the cultural access field.
The goal will be to establish a Disability Awareness Program and a Community Access Monitor Program. Cultural Access team members and surveyors will assess the accessibility of cultural venues throughout Kansas City and post the information on this web page. So keep watching this page for helpful information about accessible arts venues and programming for persons with disabilities.
