International Young Soloist Program (IYS)

Description

The VSA arts International Young Soloists Award annualy recognizes outstanding young musicians with disabilities and support and encourages them in their pursuit of a career. All types of music sre accepted - country, classical, jazz, rap, rock, bluegrass, world, etc. A committee of distinguished music professionals selects the award recipients who receive $5,000 and the opportunity to perform in a concert at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.

The Writing Project

Description

This call for flash fiction, poetry and spoken word is an opportunity to draw out the expressive minds of students through the written word, while also addressing educational standards in reading and writing.

National Children's Call for Art

Description

In January, 2008, the VSA arts home office will announce the details about this year's national Call for Children't Art. Generally, the call will solicit at least one piece of visual art from each state for inclusion in a national exhibit in Wshington, DC. That exhibit will provide visibility for VSA arts and promote public education on VSA arts programming.

Playwright Discovery Award
Description

The VSA arts Playwright Discovery Program invites middle and high school students to take a closer look at the world around them, examine how disability affects their lives and the lives of others, and express their views through the art of playwriting. Playwrights may write from their own experience or about an experience in the life of another person or fictional character. Young playwrights with and without disabilities are encouraged to submit a script. Entries may be the work of an individual student or collaboration by a group or class of students.

The winning play will be professionally produced at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The winning playwright receives $2,000 and a trip to Washington, D.C., to see his/her play performed.
