After-School Arts Club
Accessible Arts believes that by participating in the arts, children develop critical thinking skills, take risks in a safe environment and experience successes. The challenge of creating something of value instills hope and self-confidence in children and young adults.
We
have long dreamed of a space where we could provide accessible arts programming
for children in the metropolitan area. As part of our mission of training and
development, we also wanted a place where we could offer inclusive arts classes
for children of all abilities that could be observed by professionals, educators,
parents and other caregivers.
The
After-School Arts Club was started in the fall of 2003 for interested students
at the Kansas State School for the Blind. Thanks to a grant from the Junior
League of Kansas City, Missouri, additional artist consultants will allow us
to expand our program to the larger community. Professional artists will engage
children of all abilities in a variety of arts projects. The children will be
provided with a safe and supportive environment in which to explore their interests
and abilities while obtaining new skills and knowledge.
