2007 Awards Ceremony & Reception - Wednesday, March 12, 10:30 am at the Dining Room, Kansas State School for the Blind - 1100 State Ave.; Kansas City, KS. Accessible Arts and the Kansas State Board of Education present annual awards for Educator of the Year (nominated by peers) and Distinguished Service of the year, both in Arts and Disabilities. (See map of the campus.) We thank all the people who sent in such wonderful nominations for Educator of the Year. Please remember to consider these awards during 2008, and turn your nominations in by the next deadline, December 31, 2008. Watch for more details about the Awards. 99 Drums - April 26-27, 2008, Saturday morning through Sunday afternoon. A weekend of hands-on music and dance and art workshops exploring the arts, history, customs, and food of West African, Native American, Mexican, and Caribbean cultures. For children ages 9-15 of all abilities and disabilities. The cost is $55 (by April 15), $75 (after April 15), $100 (after April 23rd on a space available basis), and a few scholarships are available (through April 15). This year all parent information, registration form and waivers can be downloaded online. Refer, also, to earlier information under What We Do (Past Programming) and under Archives (newsletters and past programming). A free public performance culminates the program 2:00 - 4:00 pm on Sunday. For more information, call 913.281.1133.

After-School Arts Club - Applications are now being taken for youth in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Professional artists will engage children of all abilities in a variety of arts projects. We also encourage educators and caregivers to schedule sessions with their students for special projects or to observe our classes as a part of their own development. Discovery Trails Trek in 2008 - June 4-June 19, 2008, fifteen teens with visual impairments will camp their way along one of the early trails. Discovery Trails annual summer treks and related arts programs began in 1998 and are a collaboration between Accessible Arts and the Kansas State School for the Blind.
