What to Expect

Using his music therapy and group facilitation background, Bongo Barry has created a program that utilizes our natural rhythmic abilities by accessing language and movement to create a holistic learning experience that is accessible to everyone regardless of previous musical training.

Using team spirit building techniques, Barry demonstrates how to use drumming and other rhythm experiences to address students’ learning outcomes in the class. These include math, science and social studies. Different learning styles are addressed during the presentation. Techniques for playing both hand drums and a variety of percussion instruments will be addressed. Drums and other percussion instruments will be provided for the workshop.

Participants will also explore the joy derived from building their own drums and shakers. We will construct 2 different drums using a variety of materials including a flower pot and tuna can. All instruments produce a good musical sound when completed! We will also explore the physics of drums and other percussion instruments. Participants will take home their finished products.

SPECIAL NOTE: PLEASE BRING A CLEAN TUNA CAN OR CAT FOOD CAN. All other materials are included in workshop fee.

This workshop is ideal for educational and health care professionals such as music teachers, music therapists, classroom teachers, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers recreation and speech therapists.
